Meet the Counselor

I am a career educator since 1970 and proud to serve as Elementary Counselor sharing Decherd and Huntland Elementary. I grew up in Gleason, a small rural town in northwest Tennessee. I played basketball, was a cheerleader, and graduated in 1967. I earned my undergraduate B.A. at Belmont University in Nashville. In addition to a very good education, I met my husband, Dr. Ellis Counts – Supervisor of Transportation and Safety for our school system. We were married in 1972. We have three sons, two in Heaven with our Lord. Our son, Mason, married in 2000 to Jennifer Cunningham from Lincoln County, blessed us with two grandchildren, Blaine and Peyton. I earned my M. Ed. in 1988 from Tennessee State University and my M.A. in Counseling in 1993 from Trevecca University so I could do what I felt called to do and what I love – helping children. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, swimming, motorcycling, being with my grandchildren, and teaching the Nursery Class at Maxwell Baptist Church.
