Melissa Livesay, Franklin County’s School Nutrition Director, was recognized as Tennessee’s School Nutrition Director of the Year.

Melissa Livesay, Franklin County’s School Nutrition Director, was recognized as Tennessee’s School Nutrition Director of the Year on June 12th, 2018 at the Tennessee School Nutrition Association’s annual conference in Chattanooga. This award recognizes school nutrition directors for the contributions they have made to their school districts and for managing effective school nutrition programs. The distinction came as a complete surprise to Livesay, as she was nominated for the award by her staff. In order to qualify for this prestigious award, the nominee must be a School Nutrition Director for the past five years, hold a School Nutrition Association (SNA) certificate in school nutrition and must have served in at least one position on the state or national executive board.

Melissa began her school nutrition career in Warren County, TN where she worked for 20 years. During that time, she worked in many different positions in the school kitchens and the district’s administrative office. Melissa joined the Franklin County school nutrition team in December of 2012.

Since becoming Franklin County’s School Nutrition Director, Melissa has made positive changes throughout the School Nutrition Program. She implemented the Universal Free Breakfast program, which allows all students to eat at no charge and will be bringing CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) to two of Franklin County’s schools this fall. This will allow every student registered at those two schools, regardless of income, to receive meals at no cost. She also started the Summer Feeding Program in 2017. Under Melissa’s guidance, the Franklin County School Nutrition Program is helping to provide the students of Franklin County with appetizing and nutritious meals during and outside of the school year.
