Ms. Sherry's Bio

I am beginning my 42nd year in education and we are having a great year at Huntland! Before retiring after 32 years in Alabama, I served as an Instructional Partner at the school level in Huntsville City Schools; Parent Resource Coordinator and Job Trainer/Developer at the district level in Jefferson County Schools in Birmingham, Alabama, and an Education Specialist in the Federal Programs Section at the Alabama Department of Education (ALSDE) in Montgomery, Alabama. While at the ALSDE, I was the state coordinator for both the Learn and Serve Alabama and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers programs. I have presented both in break-out groups and plenary professional development sessions on service learning, comprehensive school reform, after-school learning programs and the art of grant writing at the district, state and national levels in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.  Personally, I love to sing, play the piano and travel to Ireland, plus playing with my cute fur babies...Gracie & Olivia.

I love working with my students at Huntland! We do so many fun things in our group guidance classes. Our children learn many valuable lessons that will apply to their lives now, as well as all throughout their adult lives. Life is challenging and can be hard at times. It is my hope that I am able to help our children learn how to be resilient and problem-solve as they navigate through life so that they can be the very best they can possibly be each and every day!
